Payments and cash
Cards are common in central businesses, but carry some Turkish-lira cash for small market stalls, rural venues or connectivity problems. Do not assume foreign currency is accepted; verify the amount shown on the card terminal.
Parking and driving
The centre and coast can be busy on summer weekends. Check signs and markings before leaving a car; never block access, emergency lanes or driveways. Take wet-road warnings seriously on rural routes.
Language and connectivity
Do not expect the same level of English service as in Istanbul’s busiest tourist districts. Save the address in Turkish and keep the phone number. Mobile reception may vary in rural areas, so download maps in advance.
Health and emergencies
Türkiye uses 112 as the single emergency number. Describe your location using the neighbourhood, road and coordinates where possible. Follow closures and official warnings at beaches, forests and archaeological remains.
Accessibility
A level promenade does not prove that a venue entrance, toilet or sandy beach transition is accessible. Ask separately about ramps, lifts, accessible toilets and parking.
